The birth of the myth of Porto Rotondo has happened thanks to the work of two Venetian entrepreneurs, the brothers Dona dalle Rose, who in the mid 60 'create the first modern urban core.
The origin of the two entrepreneurs is clearly visible in the architecture of the town, in fact no coincidence that the central square, the heart of the town was called Piazza San Marco.
After a rapid growth in the 70 ', driven also by the airline Meridiana (ex alisarda) owned by the Aga Khan.
But it is in the 80 'that is seeing a boom in attendance and prestige, with the arrival of Italian and international celebrities like royalty in England, the current Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi (who buys Villa Certosa ), and many celebrities from the entertainment and television. In 1985 also founded the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, which becomes about one of the most important and exclusive in Europe. Currently, there are permanent residents in about a thousand units, but the summer months can reach 20 thousand people in attendance in June and July and 35 thousand in August.
