It's called "the Sartiglia", and is one of the most popular since ancient Sardinian traditions. The term derives from the Spanish sortija, meaning ring, and is in a race where the riders to gallop their horses, they must pierce a ring-shaped star with a sword. Sartiglia we run twice a year: the last Sunday of Carnival, and the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
The party that celebrates the city, nearly all come together to May: from the first Sunday, which celebrates St. James, St. Saviour, St. George, the Madonna del Monte, San San Win and Anatolia. The second Sunday of May instead, they celebrate St. Mary of the Snow, the patron saint of Arzachena, whose feast day is renewed in August with the procession, and we also celebrate St. Peter, St. Nicholas, St. Victor and Our Lady of Peace. On May 15, however, is celebrated in Sardinia, St. Isidore, and is celebrated in Olbia San Simplicio for the latter, the rituals and festivities begin several days before, and are held inside the Basilica of the same name.
The second last Sunday of May but we celebrate: Our Lady of Grace, Our Lady of Cabu Abbas, St. Elizabeth, St. Just. In all of the aforementioned festivals, folklore, festivals, and exhibitions, accompanied the festivities for several days.
