The birth of the myth of Porto Rotondo, it happened thanks to the work of two Venetian entrepreneurs, the Dona brothers from the roses, who in the mid-60s created the first modern urban nucleus.
The origins of the two entrepreneurs are clearly visible in the architecture of the town, in fact it is no coincidence that the central square, the beating heart of the town has been called St. Mark's Square.
After rapid growth in the 1970s , also driven by the Meridiana airline (ex alisarda) owned byagha khan.
But it was in the 80s that we witnessed a real boom in attendance and prestige, with the arrival of Italian and international famous people such as the royals of England, the current Prime Minister Berlusconi (who buys Villa Certosa), and many characters from entertainment and television.
The Porto Rotondo Yacht Club was also founded in 1985 and quickly became one of the most important and exclusive in Europe..
Currently there are around a thousand permanent residents, but in the summer months attendances reach 20 thousand people in June and July and 35 thousand in August.
