Hamlet of the city of Olbia, Porto Rotondo it is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Sardinia. It is located north-east of the island, in the area between the Gulf of Cugnana and the Gulf of Marinella, and stands on the promontory of Monte Ladu and Punta Volpe; its territory, which extends for five hectares, it is part of the province of Olbia-Tempio.
It is about 18 km from Olbia, and a little further from Palau, and Arzachena: The city's well-equipped port is renowned, which can accommodate 800 boats; in an area of the city, Punta Lada, stands the summer residence of Silvio Berlusconi, Villa Certosa, which overlooks the Gulf of Marinella.
Porto Rotondo was established by the Venetian Donà delle Rose family in 1967: its history recalls that of the Costa Smeralda, established in 1962 with the intent, very successful, to transform that part of the territory into a renowned tourist location. Its architecture instead, remembers Venice, in fact the main square is called Piazzetta San Marco. There are numerous beaches renowned by tourists, among all, the Sassi beach stands out, Ira beach, that of algae, and that of Punta Volpe, which stands on the homonymous area, and the beaches of Punta Asphodeli.
